I try to live my life with trust in God. I believe that He has my best interest in mind. And, I trust that He has the best plans for me. There is a distinct difference between belief and trust.

Belief is knowing the facts about something and trust is having enough faith to place your life in the hands of someone or something.

Trust Your Parachute

As an example, consider a person who wants to go skydiving. There’s a difference here between suiting up, putting on a parachute, going up in the plane, and standing at the door while looking out at the ground 13,000 feet below. Up to this point, the participant believes in his parachute.

When the participant steps through the door and begins his free-fall journey to earth is the point of trust. Now everything depends on his parachute.

Trust In Jesus

Trusting in Jesus is very much the same. Those who claim they have faith because they believe in Jesus is not enough. In the Bible, James says, “You say you have faith, for you believe that there is one God. Good for you! Even the demons believe this, and they tremble in terror.” (James 2:19 )

Trust goes deeper than belief. Believing just scratches the surface. Trust is completely immersing yourself in the truth.

It’s like the difference between dipping a toe in the water and diving in headfirst. Both will get you wet, but only one is considered swimming.

Wayne Grudem, an author and theology professor, writes, “Personal saving faith, in the way Scripture understands it, involves more than mere knowledge. Of course, it is necessary that we have some knowledge of who Christ is and what he has done. ... But, knowledge about the facts of Jesus’ life, death, and resurrection for us is not enough, for people can know facts but rebel against them or dislike them.

God's Promises

Scripture is repeatedly pointing us to trust in God. The Israelites trusted God to bring salvation. “In that day the people will proclaim, “This is our God! We trusted in him, and he saved us! This is the Lord, in whom we trusted. Let us rejoice in the salvation he brings!” (Isaiah 25:9)

Joshua talking about serving the Lord, saying, “So fear the Lord and serve him wholeheartedly. Put away forever the idols your ancestors worshiped when they lived beyond the Euphrates River and in Egypt. Serve the Lord alone. But if you refuse to serve the Lord, then choose today whom you will serve. ... But as for me and my family, we will serve the Lord.” (Joshua 24:14-15)

In Proverbs, Solomon tells us, “Trust in the Lord with all your heart; do not depend on your own understanding. Seek his will in all you do, and he will show you which path to take.” (Proverbs 3:5-6)

Jesus says, God is good, and He will provide everything you need, “Seek the Kingdom of God above all else, and live righteously, and he will give you everything you need. “So don’t worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will bring its own worries. Today’s trouble is enough for today.” (Matthew 6:33-34)

God has repeatedly proven he is trustworthy and he sent Jesus to rescue humanity from sin and death.

Jesus told his disciples, “Don’t let your hearts be troubled. Trust in God, and trust also in me. ... I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one can come to the Father except through me. If you had really known me, you would know who my Father is. From now on, you do know him and have seen him!” (John 14:1, 6-7)

You must get past belief and step into trusting God. It’s only then that your faith becomes real. God is for you, not against you. It’s okay to trust Him and release the control you think you have over your life. Let Him take good care of you.
